Mississippi Foundation for Renewable Energy is proud to announce that our lead grower & plant geneticist, after years of selective breeding, has produced a new variety of long cayenne pepper plant that has the ability to grow to astonishing heights. In November of 2024, his accomplishment proved itself in a "big" way. Measuring in at almost sixteen & a half feet tall, his plant beat the world record for tallest pepper plant. While the record is currently pending with Guinness Book of World Records, his work has not slowed. We are confident that he will beat his own record in 2025! Stay tuned.......

Measuring, Identification & Verification of World Record

On November 29th 2024, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, a group of expert witnesses met up to validate the claim of the worlds tallest pepper plant.

Willie Roses (an expert in measurements), Willie C. R. Perteet (County Supervisor, beat 4 Attala County, MS), Tobias Campbell (Forester), & Mark Terkanian (Plant Specialist, bachelor of science, plant sciences, University of Massachusetts) all convened to witness the plant together.

One at a time, they were lifted to the top of the plant by a bucket truck where they each measured the plant individually. The entire process was filmed from multiple angles simultaneously including a perspective view from a distance, & a close up view. Still photography was also taken at the same time from other angles.

Mark Terkanian (plant specialist) positively identified the plant as Capsicum annuum - cayenne pepper. Mark holds a degree from University of Massachusetts in plant science, & has worked his entire life as a plant specialist & greenhouse grower/owner.

Each of the witnesses completed & signed a witness statement for submission to Guinness Book of World Records.
